Dancing Magpie - Mayyadah Anwar

Mayyadah performs traditional styles of Middle Eastern dancing
and contemporary American Belly Dance styles. She is
experienced in raqs sharqi ("Oriental Dance"- Egyptian), raqs al
assaya (cane dancing), raqs al sayf (sword dancing), veil dancing,
and dancing on glass goblets, as well as Bollywood/Bhangra and
some Gypsy Fusion. Mayyadah continues to attend workshops to
expand her skills. Through the teachings of many exceptional
dancers here in the U.S. and in Cairo, Mayyadah has gained
valuable insights and technical proficiency in this beautiful dance
that is both art and soul. Middle Easterners have praised the
authenticity of Mayyadah's dancing. She has been complemented
on her style, grace, and energy in her performances. Mayyadah
founded the Raqs Al Tarab dance group in 2005 in Elko, NV, but
only a couple years later relocated to Port Townsend, WA. In the
Fall of 2007, Mayyadah joined the award-winning group Shula
Azhar of Port Angeles, WA. It has been a tremendous experience
to dance with the ladies of Shula Azhar, to share the sisterhood
and love of the dance with such wonderfully talented women.
Mayyadah enjoys all types of dance and continues to expand her
repertoire as a performing artist. Her latest endeavors are belly
dance aerobics, the art of poi, and raising a marvelously spirited
and adorable baby girl. A new little dancer in the making!!
